Housecall is the free anti virus scan from Trend Micro

To run Housecall on your PC -

go to the home page of trendmicro.com;
in the search box at top right, enter “housecall”;
you will get a list of search results, and choose the one headed “Trend Micro HouseCall - Start”;
have a look at the System Requirements listed to check whether you comply;
press the button ‘Check my PC now’;
under the tab ‘Start’ you can read a summary description of Housecall;
in order to proceed you need to study the Terms of Use, and agree to them;
you will then be able to proceed by pressing the button ‘Launching HouseCall’.

In our review this was as far as we got. One of the items in the Terms of Use was that we should first backup our entire system. Perhaps when we are in a more magnanimous frame of mind and are willing to invest the time involved (we recently lost a week with system problems) we will agree to this paragraph.

We would not however try to discourage you from continuing, and should you wish, press the button ‘Launching HouseCall’.

Conclusion

Seems promising. We will take another look at this as soon as possible.

It does not offer the option to have your PC continually monitored for viruses. Housecall is a scan and fix (partly) (some of the fixes are chargeable) at no charge.
