Free Antivirus Software Beware Fake

What a worry! You thought your present free antivirus software was doing its job.

You’ve got problems on your PC; weird things are happening; you’re wasting hours trying different things to get your system back to normal. You’ve got that horrible sinking feeling as you realise your computer is useless to you limping along as it is.

ACTION

“Well, I’ll just have to get out on the net and find other free antivirus software”.

So you Google, “free antivirus software”.

Just in case you have to end up paying something for the antivirus, you bypass the first couple of pages of search results. You’d prefer not to pay the prices set by the regular software security companies.

You are maybe looking for a promising startup company offering free security software, or at least cheap pricing.

The one you select offers everything.

You think, “What can I lose, the risk is all their’s?” They offer 40 days free trial for their paid “Pro” version.

DOWNLOAD. Great!

When you download your trial version it has everything to make it seem the genuine article.

Even down to the smallest icon, the display screen looks first class. The design of the dialog boxes has familiar colorings.

When you run the setup.exe you don’t hesitate when your firewall asks you do you want the antivirus to connect over the internet.

CALAMITY. Your New Free Antivirus Software Was A Virus

You haven’t quite realised it yet, but a worse disaster has just struck. What you thought was a genuine antivirus is itself a virus, and has sent details of your system back to it’s own site.

The next thing it did was to download a keylogger. Its aim is to collect usernames and passwords of bank accounts, or other financial institutions.

Fake antiviruses are on the increase.

CONCLUSION

Watch out for very similarly-named software websites, screen designs which mimic the top
genuine sites, and product names which are very like the usual ones.

Stick with the top well-known antiviruses like PcTools, Mcafee, Trend etc.
